Phu Quoc with children, age by age

What a baby, a four-year-old, an eight-year-old and a teenager can each do at Hon Thom, VinWonders, Vinpearl Safari, Grand World and Sunset Town, how the 100 cm and 140 cm lines decide tickets, and how to plan around 34 °C middays.

Height decides more than age

At every big park on the island the ticket goes by height. The usual bands are free under 100 cm, a child price from 100 cm to under 140 cm, and an adult price from 140 cm. Seniors over 60 pay the child price at VinWonders and the Safari. Rides then set their own limits: at Aquatopia most slides need about 120 cm; children of 106 to 119 cm often ride with an adult; at VinWonders, Adventure World is for visitors over 140 cm, and any child under 140 cm and under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Measure your children at home, with the shoes they will wear, and tell us the figure. A child at 98 cm may be measured at 101 cm in sandals, and the price changes.

Age by age

Babies and toddlers, under about 3

Most things are free, and most things are not for them. The Safari is the best value: the bus through the semi-wild zone, baby animals at Kid Zoo from 09:00 to 16:00, and feeding at the giraffe, lemur and elephant areas. At VinWonders, strollers are rented near the main entrance and baby-change tables are in some toilets near the entrance; the aquarium is indoors and cool. Evenings work if they sleep in the car on the way back.

Ages 3 to 5

The age of kids' pools and animals. Aquatopia's Kids Splash Zone and Monkey Beach and VinWonders' kids' pool, with more than ten games and slides, are the core of a water day. Fantasy World at VinWonders is designed for ages 3 to 12. The Kid Zoo Keeper activity at the Safari runs from 10:30 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 16:00. Keep evening shows for days with a long nap.

Ages 6 to 9

Most children pass 120 cm somewhere in this range, which opens most slides at Aquatopia. They can sit through the 45-minute Tinh Hoa Viet Nam show at Grand World and the 25- to 30-minute Kiss of the Sea. Two parks in one day, such as the Safari morning and VinWonders afternoon, becomes possible from about eight.

Ages 10 to 13

Many are close to or past 140 cm and pay the adult price. The wooden roller coaster on Hon Thom, Adventure World at VinWonders and the 175 m slide in Typhoon World are the draw. They still need an adult with them at VinWonders if under 140 cm and under 14.

Teenagers

Adult tickets, adult rides, and opinions. They usually prefer one full VinWonders day and the Hon Thom slides to the Safari and Grand World. Let them choose one evening show.

Heat: the rule that shapes every plan

The annual mean temperature is about 25 to 27 °C, but April middays often reach 34 to 36 °C. Local beach-safety advice is to avoid swimming and direct sun from 11:00 to 14:00, use SPF 50+ and wear a wide-brimmed hat. On a park day that means three blocks: outdoors from opening to about 11:30, indoors or at lunch and resting from 11:30 to 14:00, outdoors again from about 14:00 or 15:00 until closing.

  • A refillable bottle per child, refilled at every meal stop.
  • Rash vests rather than sunscreen alone for water days; sunscreen washes off on slides.
  • A cold towel in a zip bag for the car back.
  • Hats with neck flaps for the Safari, where much of the walk is in the open.
  • Plan the indoor halls for midday: the VinWonders aquarium, the 4D cinema and Fire Phoenix Square indoor games, or the Teddy Bear Museum at Grand World.

Rest breaks that actually happen

A rest break on paper is not a rest break. The ones that work with small children are the car ride back to the hotel after the Safari morning, lunch with a seat in the shade on Hon Thom, and a hotel afternoon before an evening show. A child who napped from 14:00 to 15:30 usually lasts to 21:15; one who did not is asleep before the lanterns at Grand World.

When to come with children

Our planning view, from the dry season (November to April), the rainy season (May to October), storm risk in July to September and April heat of 34–36 °C at midday. Parks open all year.

The dry season from November to April is easiest: calm seas, dry days, clear sunsets. Parks stay open all year. In the rainy months from May to October, short heavy showers are common, and our rainy-day plan lists the indoor options park by park.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Do children need a passport or visa for Phu Quoc?

Children need their own passport. Foreign visitors who fly directly into Phu Quoc through an international gate can stay up to 30 days without a visa; travelling on to the rest of Vietnam needs a valid visa, including for children.

Which park is best for a child under 100 cm?

Vinpearl Safari: free entry, animals at eye level, the safari bus, feeding times and Kid Zoo. VinWonders' kids' pool and aquarium come second.

Can we bring a pushchair everywhere?

VinWonders rents strollers at the entrance. On Hon Thom the cable car gates and buggies make a sling easier for babies. At Sunset Town in the evening, crowds make a carrier more practical.

How hot is it in the parks?

April middays often reach 34 to 36 °C. Even in cooler months, the sun between 11:00 and 14:00 is strong, which is why every plan we make keeps that window indoors or at rest.
